![]() Being more famous as a boxing venue, this building may not be remembered for hosting many significant wrestling cards, but the world title unification bout in which National Wrestling Association champion Jim Londos defeated New York State Athletic Commission champion Jim Browning took place here on 06/25/1934 in front of 20,000 fans. The unified title would later be won by Danno O'Mahoney, who became the undisputed world heavyweight champion by defeating American Wrestling Association champion Ed Don George about 13 months later in Boston. "Long Island City Bowl" did not last long, however. The building was torn down after World War II, and the area is now occupied by a series of car dealerships. |
