It was built in 1906 as Manhattan Opera House. Samuel Rachmann promoted international tournaments in this building between 1915 and 1916. WWF aired Monday Night Raw from the Hammerstein Ballroom on 01/11/1993 and taped/aired several following episodes. It later became the Manhattan home for ECW, which promoted the cards at the Hammerstein in 2000 and 2001 as well as the "ECW One Night Stand" PPV cards by WWE. Currently, ROH promotes the events in the building almost on a monthly basis and notably featured the true legends from Japan: Kenta Kobashi in 10/2005 and Mitsuharu Misawa in 12/2007. |
